Concepts of Literacy
According the ACRL, information literacy is a set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information (ACRL, 2019) . This week’s reading gave me a better understanding of these three concepts. Information literacy is a very important skill that all students should begin learning in their K-12 years. According to the article entitled, “ Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, “ Librarians have a greater responsibility in identifying core ideas within their own knowledge domain that can extend learning for students, in creating a new cohesive curriculum for information literacy, and in collaborating more extensively with faculty.” The use of digital/media, and technology is what create information literacy. As librarians, we are the schools most reliable information literacy experts. Our job is to give students better opportunity to develop literacy skills.
